About Us

Chima Cooking!

We welcome you to our site and hope you enjoy it! Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions whatsoever. Our friendly staff will be happy to assist you. Our job is to provide a rewarding experience to each of our volunteer Bigs and to provide a caring friend and role model to each child on our waiting list. Our organization does not want any child to have to wait too long for help.

Everyone at RBBBS look forward to helping you with any of your concerns as we are here to support you. We are also available for questions, comments or to just touch base! We love to hear any feedback or suggestions to help with our mission or our matches. Each month we provide Volunteer orientations during one evening. Please inquire to sign up for one of these events to see what volunteering for our program is all about!

As our nation’s leader in positive youth development, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping to shape young people into caring, successful, productive adults for over a century. In 2008, Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters celebrated its 41st Anniversary. In the past ten years, RBBBS has more than quadrupled its number of one-to-one matches between caring adult mentors and at-risk youth.

In 2009, 408 Big-Little matches were served through agency programs -- Community-Based, Campus Pals, Bigs in Schools, Bigs Plus, Children of Prisoners, and Intergenerational Mentoring. Our number of matches has grown significantly over the past four years overall and remains strong, thanks to the support of the community and our increasing success at winning grants. However, there is an escalating need for prevention services for children and youth in our rapidly growing Planning District 16. RBBBS strives to match all children and youth whose parents apply on their behalf, provided they meet the eligibility criteria for youth enrollment in our program. Our organization is dependent on a steady stream of volunteers to become Bigs so we may provide a mentor to each child who wants and needs one. We are currently serving 200 matches with 82 children on our Ready to Be Matched List.
